The operational requirement

A large surveillance environment creates a practical challenge: operators need to find relevant information quickly without being overwhelmed by the number of available video streams.

The control room therefore needed to support organised live viewing, controlled access to recorded video and a maintainable technical environment. The design also had to consider the network, recording platform, workstations, displays, operator controls and supporting power as parts of one system.

MTT's engineering approach

MTT approached the control room as an integrated ICT and ELV environment rather than a collection of screens.

Structured viewing

Display layouts were organised around operational use. This helps operators focus on relevant camera groups and switch views when an event or investigation requires more detail.

Operator workstations and controls

The workspace considered practical interaction with the video-management environment, including workstation placement and dedicated CCTV controls. The objective was to support efficient navigation while keeping the room clear and usable.

Network and recording integration

The control room depended on the wider surveillance, network and recording architecture. MTT coordinated the viewing environment with the systems carrying and storing video so that live monitoring and playback could operate as one workflow.

Equipment organisation

Control-room technology requires organised cabinets, patching, power distribution and maintainable connections. Clear equipment arrangement supports troubleshooting, future changes and safer maintenance.

Commissioning and documentation

Commissioning checked the relationship between camera views, recording, operator access and display behaviour. Documentation provides the basis for system handover and ongoing support without exposing confidential site information publicly.

Operational outcome

The completed environment gives the organisation a central location for surveillance monitoring and incident review. Operators can work with grouped video views and dedicated controls while the supporting infrastructure remains organised for maintenance and lifecycle support.
